Safety Rules to Remember When Operating a Forklift

Đánh giá

UMAC shares essential safety rules that forklift operators must carefully read and follow to prevent accidents that could endanger lives and cause unnecessary property damage.

Forklifts are essential equipment in warehouses, construction sites, and factories. However, if safety protocols are not followed, they can become a serious hazard. To ensure the safety of both the operator and those around them, it is crucial to remember and adhere to the following safety rules.

Safety Rules to Remember When Operating a Forklift

1. Drive Slowly – This Is Not a Race!

Many accidents happen due to excessive speed. Forklifts are not designed for high-speed movement.

👉 Always maintain a slow and steady speed to avoid sudden braking or tipping over.

2. Do Not Move While Lifting a Load High

Operating a forklift with a load raised high increases the risk of losing balance and tipping over.

👉 Lower the forks before moving to ensure stability.

3. Going Downhill? Move in Reverse

Driving downhill with a load in front can cause you to lose control.

👉 Always reverse when going downhill to maintain better control and prevent load spills.

4. Going Uphill? Face the Load

Driving uphill can lead to imbalance if not handled properly.

👉 Always drive forward when going uphill to keep the load stable and avoid slipping.

5. Be Careful When Turning – Avoid Tail Swing

Forklifts have a wide rear swing, meaning the back of the vehicle moves in the opposite direction when turning.

👉 Carefully check for obstacles and people around you before turning to avoid collisions.

6. A Forklift Is Not a Taxi – Do Not Carry Passengers

Forklifts are designed to carry loads, not people. Carrying additional passengers can be extremely dangerous.

👉 Never transport people on a forklift unless it is specifically designed for a passenger seat.

Safety Precautions When Operating a Forklift

To minimize accidents and ensure workplace safety, always remember:

  • Inspect the forklift before use to detect any technical issues.
  • Wear proper protective gear, such as a safety helmet and high-visibility vest.
  • Follow load capacity regulations to prevent overloading and loss of balance.
  • Check the surroundings carefully before moving to avoid collisions.
